This training is by invitation only.

Course Narrative:
START Mini-Intensive Training Program includes modules on understanding autism, behavior supports, educational supports, and more. Each multidisciplinary team member that work with an identified target student diagnosed with ASD will attend each module. Teams may also include parents in these training sessions.

The following Modules are included in the entire Mini Intensive Training {Each team member would be requested to attend each session}

Mini Session Information:

October 27, 2017
Orientation and Foundations in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
This module provides participants with an orientation to the START Project and an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

November 30, 2017
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
Participants will gain an understanding of PBIS, functional behavioral assessment (FBA), positive behavior support plan development, how to collect relevant data, and use that information to guide the development of behavioral strategies.

January 31, 2018
Looking at ASD Differently
This module is about respecting the characteristics of ASD manifested by people on the spectrum and using their intense interests and needs to their advantage. The focus will be on a new way of thinking about behaviors associated with ASD, which is foundational for staff.

February 27, 2018
Educational Strategies
Participants are provided an opportunity to experience ASD through sensitivity awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the learning challenges for these students. Participants learn to provide curricular accommodations and modifications so students with ASD have access to appropriate grade-level curriculum.

May 7, 2018
System Change & Peer to Peer
Teams will meet to discuss the data collected and transition to next year for target student. The specific steps for developing a peer to peer support program will be presented including: recruitment, training, and maintenance of the peer to peer support students.

Echoes and Reflections is the Holocaust Memorial Center"s comprehensive Holocaust education program that provides professional development and a rich array of resources for middle and high school teachers. The program prepares educators to teach about the Holocaust and other genocide in a way that stimulates engagement and critical thinking while providing opportunities for students to see the relevance of this complex history in their own lives.

Public Act 170 of 2016 requires that all social studies curriculum for grades 8-12 in school districts and public school academies include instruction on genocide. This includes, but is not limited to, the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide.

Parents and Caregivers

Course Narrative:
This information workshop is designed for parents and caregivers who may be involved in the life of an individual who is served by a school or other organization where Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is utilized in staff development.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide parents and other caregivers with:

  1. An understanding of the philosophy of Care, Welfare, Safety and Security, which is the cornerstore of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training program.
  2. An overview of some of the concepts and strategies taught in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program that could aid in the continuity of a person´s support and care.
  3. Knowledge about the realities involved in the use of physical restraints.

Additional Information:
Developed by CPI, Nonvoilent Crisis Intervention training is an internationally recognized behavior management program that has been proven eff ective in managing disruptive and assultive individuals. The goal of the program is to give you the skills to provide the skills to provide the best Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security for staff and those in our care, even during crisis situations.

Maximum Participants: 25

Minimum Participants: 5
